Summary:

Oil spills have a new nemesis in the form of tiny carbon spheres developed by a U of I team, including researchers at PRI. The material demonstrated an 80 percent removal rate while accelerating natural remediation of the rest. The work, funded by iSEE, was reported in Nature Publishing.
